Social plugins from Facebook, Google+, and Twitter using the “2-click solution”
On our website, we use so-called social plugins (“plugins”) provided by the social networks Facebook, Google+, and the microblogging service Twitter. The companies Facebook Inc., Google Inc., and Twitter Inc. (“providers”) offer these services.
Facebook is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. Californian Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”). An overview of Facebook’s plugins and how they look like is provided here:
Google+ is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”). An overview of Google’s plugins and how they look like is provided here:
Twitter is operated by Twitter Inc., 1355 Market St, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA. An overview of the Twitter buttons and how they look like is provided here:
To enhance the protection of your data when visiting our website, the plugins are linked via the so-called “2-click solution” to the page. This linking guarantees that when calling up a page of our website containing such plugins, a connection to the Facebook, Google+ and Twitter servers is not yet established. It is only once you activate the plugins and thereby grant your approval for the transmission of data that your browser establishes a direct connection to the Google+, Facebook or Twitter servers. The contents of the respective plugin are then transmitted directly to your browser and linked to the page by the appropriate provider. By linking the plugin, the providers obtain the information that your browser has called up the appropriate page of our website, even if you do not have a corresponding profile with the provider or are currently not logged in. This information (including your IP address) is transmitted from your browser directly onto a server of the respective provider in the USA and stored there. If you are logged into one of the social networks, the providers are immediately able to correlate the visit to our website with your profile on the social network. If you interact with the plugins, e.g. by clicking the “Like”, the “+1”, or “Twitter” button, the relevant information is also immediately transmitted directly to one of the providers’ servers and stored there. The information is also published in the social network or your Twitter account and shown to your contacts there. To learn more about the purpose and extent of data collection by the providers as well as your relevant rights and setting options to protect your privacy, please refer to the providers’ data protection information.
